Why Locals Love Sam Kee BBQ Place

Sam Kee BBQ Place is a delightful culinary gem located at 57, Jalan Lambak, Kampung Masjid Lama, in Kluang, Johor. Specializing in Malaysian meat dishes, this local favorite offers an authentic taste of traditional BBQ delicacies that truly capture the essence of Malaysian comfort food.

Step into Sam Kee BBQ Place and you’ll immediately notice the clean, tidy, and spacious atmosphere—welcoming yet unpretentious. The simple decor allows the true star of the show to shine: the food. Their signature offerings include perfectly roasted pork, succulent char siew (barbecued pork with a sweet glaze), and a variety of herbal double-boil soups that provide a warming, aromatic experience unique to this eatery.

Every bite at Sam Kee is a journey through rich flavors and textures. The char siew is a highlight—glazed to perfection and beautifully caramelized, it melts in your mouth with a harmonious balance of sweet and savory notes. The roast pork offers a crispy skin paired with tender, juicy meat underneath, while the roasted chicken, although noted to be a little more modest by some, still holds its own with a satisfying depth of flavor.

The herbal soups here are especially worth trying. As one devoted customer expressed, these soups boast unique, carefully crafted tastes that enrich the dining experience and speak to Sam Kee’s dedication to authentic, traditional recipes that nourish both body and soul.

Value is a big part of the appeal. With generous portions offered at very reasonable prices—one satisfied diner highlighted a meal featuring chicken, char siew, and siew yok (roast pork) coming in at only RM26—you can indulge without hesitation. The friendly, honest service from the owner and staff further enhances the warm, neighborhood feel.

For those seeking the spot, Sam Kee BBQ Place may be a little tucked away but definitely worth the effort. It sits opposite a building resembling a Chinese temple, near a 7-Eleven, with clear signage referencing "Chinatown Hotel" to guide your way.

If your appetite calls for a genuine Malaysian BBQ experience with quality, flavor, and heart, Sam Kee BBQ Place promises a comforting and satisfying meal that will keep you coming back for more.

BBQ meat was really good. Worth a visit. Was quite hard to find. There's a 7-11 at the end of the row of shops. Directly opposite a building that looks like a Chinese temple . Look for sign that says 'Chinatown hotel'

The roasted meat makes you cry with memories of the older days. The soup is totally authentic from the older days. Must try when your are in Kluang. No where else retain such skill in cooking. Even the rice taste like grandma time. Hidden gem is a restful place.

we went on a saturday afternoon and it was not crowded. Spacious seating interior, food was served fast. The lotus soup was very nice. We also had the mixed set of char siew and roast pork. I like the rice because they use the fragrant chicken rice and not just white rice. Prices are affordable, so you can either order individual or set for sharing.
